JOIN US IN MAKING YOUTH BASKETBALL MORE ACCESSIBLE
Across the boroughs, youth sports access is too often taken for granted—but in many neighborhoods of Queens, that’s simply not the case. Studies show that in Queens fewer than two-thirds of youth live within a half-mile of a recreational athletic facility, leaving large swaths of children without convenient places to play and train.
Meanwhile, city-wide research found that participation in organized sports like basketball dropped significantly after the pandemic: about 10.7% of children aged 6-17 stopped playing basketball in New York City after the height of COVID-19 restrictions. For many families, the barriers are real — cost, travel, competition for gym space, and time all stack up.
We believe we can fight this together. By joining forces — as coaches, parents, donors and community members — we can open doors, build more accessible training and team opportunities, and ensure every young athlete in Queens has a chance to grow both on and off the court.
